Constitutionalizing in the Anthropocene

“Asking Questions about Asking Questions. Academic Thinking in the Anthropocene”

23 Jun 2022

Portrettenzaal (C25), Cobbenhagen Building, Tilburg University

Asking Questions about Asking Questions investigates the nature of the questions we ask and try to answer through our academic research. What are the presuppositions of the questions that guide our scientific discourse?

Sustainable Development Goals are an important current challenge for our University and for the wider society. The notion of an Anthropocene has been proposed as a critical paradigm; a challenging and inviting framework to think about humanity, the world and our possibilities and responsibilities vis-à-vis the earth, nature, society and our future as a species; a reformulation, as it were, of the first and fundamental questions of science.

These questions can give an inspiring impulse to ongoing reflection on TiU’s core values (connected, curious, caring, courageous).

There will be short presentations by Professor Han Somsen (TLS), Professor Alkeline van Lenning (Tilburg University College), Professor Tobias Klein (TiSEM), Professor Paul van Geest (TST), Professor Martine Prange (TSHD), Professor Peter Achterberg (TSB) and Professor Ernst Hirsch Ballin (TLS).

The program will be introduced and hosted by Professor Bart Koet (TST). Dr. Roshnee Ossewaarde-Lowtoo (TST) will moderate the event.

Closing remarks by Professor Henk Witte, Acting Dean of TST, and Professor Wim van de Donk, Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board of Tilburg University.

This event is organized in cooperation with Studium Generale (Attendance may count towards the SG-Certificate for students. Please check the SG-Certificate website for terms and conditions.)

This event is part of the TST’s fifteenth anniversary program.page1image1499392page1image1506112
