The recognition of a human right to a healthy environment has been a great hope to many fighting for climate protection. On 28 July 2022, the UN General Assembly recognized the human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment in what has been described as a ‘historic resolution’. What – if any – is the legal and political significance of this resolution, and how new is the right to a healthy environment really? We are delighted to discuss these and other questions with our distinguished guests:
Prof. Dr. David Boyd – UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment – University of British Columbia
Dr. Marie Petersmann – Tilburg Law School
Prof. Dr. Otto Spijkers – Wuhan University
Dr. Arphita Kodiveri – New York University
Prof. Dr. Pierre Thielbörger – Ruhr-University Bochum
